COURSES:
#1-PERIODONTICS AND SYSTEMIC DISEASE (Departing course): As dental health care providers, we have the unique opportunity to influence the total health care of our patients. Now more than ever we recognize the potential relationship between a patient's systemic health status and the condition of their periodontal supporting structures. Conversely, it is evident that the presence of periodontal disease may predispose a patient to a wide variety of systemic conditions. This course will examine the relationship between periodontal diseases and systemic conditions including diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular and respiratory disease, and hormonally mediated conditions such as puberty, pregnancy, and menopause. In addition, information will be presented regarding periodontal status and osteoporosis, premature low birth weight infants and hormone replacement therapy.

#2-DENTAL CARE FOR THE MEDICALLY COMPROMISED PATIENTS: REAL LIFE PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS (returning course): Today, dental health care providers are challenged more frequently with the management of patients with complicated medical issues. From patients with large lists of medications to therapeutic interventions that may require significant changes in a patient's treatment plan. It is important to recognize both the specific needs of these patients and the steps necessary to provide care. This course will begin with a review of basic principles in the management of medically compromised patients and will include concentrated reviews of specific patient populations.

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS (Total of 6 CEU's): These courses have been approved by the Texas Dental Hygienists' Association a State Board of Dental Examiners approved provider of continuing education for DENTISTS, DENTAL HYGIENISTS, AND DENTAL ASSISTANTS.
