10 DAY EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME –

TOURING ALASKA

Alaska is BIG and in our ALASKA TOUR EXPERIENCE you will have the opportunity to visit destinations in three of the five major regions, FAR NORTH, INTERIOR, and SOUTHCENTRAL. If you are continuing on with our ALASKA CRUISE EXPERIENCE you will also visit a fourth region, the INSIDE PASSAGE. Paradise Vacation and Travel Co. has prepared a group tour itinerary that will show you incredible scenery, take you to destinations you never dreamed of and expose you to an abundance of wildlife in their natural habitat. We have allocated time in each destination for you to be included in each scheduled program feature while having free time to explore on your own.

Our uniquely designed itinerary begins on Tuesday, May 16th with flights from Austin to Fairbanks, Alaska where we will spend our first three nights at the Westmark Hotel. On Wednesday, May 17th we will have our first day of touring Alaska’s Interior region with escorted tours to the Trans Alaska Pipeline outside of Fairbanks, Discover the Gold Tour that will allow you to pan for gold and a stop at Gold Dredge No. 8 for a hearty miner’s lunch before boarding an authentic operating sternwheeler, the DISCOVERY for a scenic cruise on the Chena and Tanana Rivers. Thursday, May 18th is the day you have the option to cross the Artic Circle and fly to Barrow, Alaska for a day tour to the Eskimo village perched on a headland that juts into the Artic Ocean. While in Barrow you will see a ceremonial dance that includes the Eskimo blanket toss. Learn about hunting native game, foods and preservation while living along side the Artic Ocean. There will be time for shopping in native businesses. Those who do not elect this optional tour will have free time in Fairbanks to go off and explore on your own. Friday, May 19th we will check out of the Westmark Hotel and board buses that will take us to Creamer’s Dairy Field, a migratory waterfowl refuge, then onto the University of Alaska Museum of the North where you will have the opportunity to view priceless treasures, discover, experience and explore all that is Alaska. After a busy morning we will stop at the Pump House Restaurant located on the banks of the Chena River and a buffet lunch. When we are finished with lunch we will board our motor coaches for the 120 mile scenic ride to Denali National Park. Late afternoon check in awaits us at the McKinley Chalet Resort located just minutes from the Denali National Park entrance where we will spend our next two nights.

This evening we will enjoy family-style platters of salmon and marinated ribs at the Alaska Cabin Nite Dinner Theater. Saturday, May 20th you will board the National Parks Service buses for the 7-8 hour Wilderness Tour into the heart of Denali National Park. A boxed snack/lunch is included. Sunday morning, May 21st offers some free time before our check out from the McKinley Chalet Resort and the 12 noon departure of the Deluxe McKinley Explorer to Anchorage. The Denali train station is near by and our rail schedule shows us arriving at 8:15pm in Anchorage. Lunch is included in our private glass-domed railcars. Upon arrival in Anchorage at the train station, buses await us for the short ride to the Hilton Anchorage where we will spend our next three nights. Monday, May 22nd we left open for you to explore Anchorage on your own. Stop by the Anchorage Museum, stroll the many downtown sights, take the opportunity to go fishing or just relax at the Hilton Anchorage. Tuesday, May 23rd has us taking a city tour of Anchorage by bus before we head to the Native and Cultural Center where history, culture and demonstrations by the people who are native to Alaska awaits us. Then it is onto the sled dog center in Eagle River to finish off our day. Your final day in Alaska, Wednesday, May 24th will be a very sad day knowing you will be leaving the Great Land behind. After checking out of the Hilton Anchorage, we will take a scenic drive along Turnagain Arm south from Anchorage to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center where orphaned and injured animals are cared for. Then it is onto Alyeska Ski Resort where trams await to transfer us to the 4,000 foot summit of Mt. Alyeska and a breath taking view of Cook Inlet. A lunch will be served for us in a banquet room at the Alyeska Prince Hotel. You will round out the afternoon with a stop at Portage Glacier and a cruise on the mv Ptarmigan for an up close view of the icy-blue Portage Glacier. Buses loaded with your luggage will take you back to Anchorage International Airport and your late night flights back to Austin arriving Thursday morning May 25, 2006.
