2005 – SEVEN DAY SEMINAR CRUISE
REVOLUTIONARY ENDODONTICS
PRESENTED BY
THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE COLLEGE OF DENTISTRY

CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR DENTISTS AND HYGIENISTS

All state boards of Dentistry require both Dentists and Dental Hygienists to complete various hours of continuing education annually in accordance with their state’s dental rules and regulations for licensing. Under the direction of Ann Marie Estes, The University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Dentistry is designated a nationally approved sponsor by the Academy of General Dentistry. The formal continuing education programs of this sponsor are accepted by AGD for Fellowship, Mastership, and membership maintenance credit. The current term of acceptance extends from January 2000 to December 2005. The University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Dentistry is designated as a recognized provider by the Continuing Education Recognition Program (CERP) conducted under the auspices of American Dental Association. Please visit their web page at: (www.utmem.edu/dentistry)

Continuing education courses that are presented cover all aspects of the practice of Dentistry including new knowledge that may not be widely accepted by the profession. Some presentations may include controversial material or commercial reference. Please be aware that the presentation of such course material should not be considered as an endorsement or approval of a particular philosophy, product, or procedure. Courses presented are acceptable by those states that recognize the ADA (CERP) and AGD approved providers. Upon completion of the course each participant will receive a certificate of completion, which includes the name, and date of the course, as well as the credit earned.

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Dentistry in association with Paradise Vacation and Travel Co., Inc. of Austin, Texas are offering these series of continuing education seminars at sea. Due to the past response and demand for inclusion in prior seminars, it is extremely important to register early with a completed application and a deposit as some seminars are limited to the number of attendees. Inclusion in each seminar is only possible with the associated cruise offered by Paradise Vacation and Travel Co. Friends, family and associates who are not taking seminars are welcomed and encouraged to participate in any offered sailing.

The calendar of 2005 Continuing Education Seminars at Sea has been designed to assist dental personnel in selecting courses needed to remain abreast of professional developments. The cost is comprised of the seminar fee for only those who are taking the seminars and the separate per person double occupancy cost for your cruise which includes your cabin assignment, meals and snacks, entertainment, current government taxes and port charges as well as security fees. Items not included are the costs for transfers to/from the airport and ship on group transfer dates and standard shipboard gratuities to your service personnel. Also not included in the basic cost is transportation to New Orleans, insurance, alcoholic beverages and soft drinks while on the cruise, shore excursions, and any other items of a personal nature.

Our lecturer for these seminars is Van T. Himel, DDS, who is Professor and Chair of the Department of Biologic and Diagnostic Sciences at the University of Tennessee, Memphis College of Dentistry and has a part time Endodontic practice. He is a native of Louisiana and received his dental degree from L.S.U. School of Dentistry. After two years in the Air Force and five years of private practice he returned to L.S.U. for graduate training in Endodontics. REVOLUTIONARY ENDODONTICS presented by Dr. Van T. Himel

8 hours of CE, Tuition $199

Basic principals of Endodontic Therapy will be discussed during the two half day sessions. Topics to be included will be diagnosis, access, cleaning & shaping and coronal seal. Techniques presently being taught at the University of Tennessee, College of Dentistry will be compared to traditional techniques. A relative new metal, nickel titanium, has been introduced into Endodontics. This program will discuss how various file designs have taken advantage of this metal’s unique properties to produce an instrument that functions differently than previous files. Various techniques of obturating root canal systems will also be discussed. Research data and clinical cases will be presented to support the proposed technique. Detail handouts will be provided.

The per person cruise cost is based on double occupancy (that is two people sharing one cabin) and we welcome companions who are not taking the seminars. The seminar fee includes educational instruction as well as any course materials. All seminar participants must arrive early at the designated seminar location to sign in for that day’s course. The Continuing Education Department of the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry audits the seminars for attendance. Seminar certificates will be distributed at course end.
